Karen Smyers

Making Strides Against MS

Karen has coached the Boston Marathon team that raises money for Multiple Sclerosis for the past 8 years. The team consists of about 60 runners from all over the country. Karen provides a training schedule, weekly emails with tips and advice on training, organizes group runs on Saturdays along the course for the runners who are local to Boston, and provides guidance for the each team member as needed.

Although Karen has done two stand-alone marathons in her career (in addition to the numerous ones that followed a 2.4 mile swim and 112-mile bike ride), she has never run the Boston Marathon herself. (But don’t tell them that!)

If you are a qualified runner who wishes to raise money for the team and join in the coached group, contact Karen. To apply for a charity number with the Multiple Sclerosis Society, contact Nancy Dlugoenski: Nancy.Dlugoenski@nmss.org.
